Dark Horses.

It's amazing how narrow the focus of the US media is regarding this year's election.  With their fixation on Bernie, the Donald, Hilary Clinton and Ted "I wanna star in a teen tit film" Cruz they're ignoring the other candidates for President.

How many, you ask?  Why, some 1669, to be exact.  (Please note that some of them have names that may be NSFW if your workplace is particularly snoopy.)  Why doesn't the media give us some more details on these guys and gals?  One of them may turn out to be the best President the US has ever had.  But you won't know unless you get to know them, and that's not happening right now.

How Not To Win Friends.

Talk about stupid.  The League of the South, a bunch of fanboys of the Confederate States of America, intend to honour John Wilkes Booth, the assassin of Abraham Lincoln.  I'm sure that will rally a lot of people to their cause.  Oh wait, it won't.  Anyone likely to be attracted to the League by such behaviour is likely already a member.

Trump's Greatest Trump?

Donald Trump announced this week he is thinking about running for US President in 2012.  If I were his potential competitors I'd be quaking in my boots given the financial resources he can bring to a campaign without having to solicit donations.  On the other hand if Trump did take the office he'd find running a country is quite different from being a coporate magnate.  You just can't say "You're fired!" to Congress if things don't go your way.  And what about that hair of his?  Do Americans really want a President who looks like he's got a dyed skunk's tail on his head?

Gerald Ford, RIP.

Gerald Ford, the 38th President of the United States, died Tuesday at age 93. Ford was America's only unelected President, taking office when the disgraced Richard Nixon left office in 1974. Unfortunately for Ford he was saddled with too much baggage from the Watergate scandal, especially when he pardoned Nixon, and would prove unable to defeat Jimmy Carter in the 1976 election. Of course Carter's luck wasn't much better, but at least he was able to serve a full term in office. Ford was also the last surviving member of the Warren Commission, which investigated John Kennedy's assassination, so I suspect we'll see some of the more paranoid, and to be blunt stupid, conspiracy mongers claim that Ford was "silenced" for some reason.
