We Would Disagree.

I just looked at a picture of David Price's dog Astro.  I'm afraid my taste for dogs runs in a different direction.  Want a smaller dog?  Get a beagle or something. 

"Pet Parents."

Who came up with that silly phrase?  No, you're not the parents of a dog or cat.  Unless you're secretly a dog or cat masquerading as a human being.  So don't call yourself a pet parent.

When I Rule The World 27.

Only cats and dogs whose appearances I like will be allowed.  Cats and dogs with smushed in faces, dogs that look like rats pretending to be dogs, those scary hairless cats, all will be forbidden.  Seriously, why would you want ugly little dogs when you could have something appealing, like a beagle?

The Surrogate.

Unfortunately for Caturday fans I don't have a cute kitty to take pictures of to post here.  I don't have any other pets, cute or otherwise, to photograph for your entertainment.  So check out this photo post of Randy McDonald's cute cat Shakespeare as a surrogate.

Not Just For Fido?

If you have a dog or cat in Saskatoon, you are supposed to have it vaccinated against rabies.  But a member of Saskatoon's animal control committee, Ed Hudson, says pet owners should also be vaccinated.  The number of animal bites has been going up in Saskatoon, 404 reported cases versus 361 in 2012, and 21 people were treated with some form of rabies vaccine this year after being bitten.  Hudson argues mandatory vaccination will reduce the chance of people catching rabies.

However it would seem to me that you'd need to vaccinate far more people than the official owner of a dog or cat.  My cousin, her husband, and their daughter live with several dogs.  I don't know who the registered owner is, but if one member of the family is at risk, they all are.  Then there's my aunt, who has regular dealings with those dogs when the family is working and at school.  So there is a case where four people would seem to require vaccination.  You can extrapolate that to all the households in town that have pets that require vaccination.  And it probably would need to be extended to others who don't have pets of their own, but work regularly around them, such as pet shop employees.

Hmmm, maybe I need to be more careful around the friendly cat who's been visiting my place lately....

Bad Combo.

This morning I saw a poster for a missing cat.  It described the cat as an outdoor cat, yet its front paws were declawed.  That doesn't sound like a good idea.  You'd think a vet wouldn't declaw a cat if it regularly went outside.

I like cats, but I can't imagine owning one.  I'm too lazy to do the necessary cleaning up after them.

Fido Fatalities.

We've all seen it more than once. Someone driving along with their dog or dogs, and the dogs have their heads hanging out the window. Seeing an example of that today made me wonder how many dogs are killed in accidents each year because of such behaviour. In an accident an unrestrained dog will be like any other unsecured occupant of a vehicle, at risk for being ejected, or for that matter striking the interior of the vehicle or other occupants in a potentially lethal fashion. I doubt anyone keeps track of this kind of thing, and animal deaths only seem to be mentioned in news reports either when the accident is caused by hitting an animal or when a significant number of animals are involved, such as a truckload of livestock.

House Guest.

Once again Dudley the English Springer Spaniel is a house guest here. Here's a shot of him looking comtemplative. Or maybe it's annoyed, since I wasn't paying utmost attention to him. Dudley is his happiest when he's the centre of attention.
