Cancelled.

Because of COVID 19 we didn't give out candy this year. This was a personal decision, as the Saskatchewan Health Authority didn't make an official call for people not to trick and treat.  But I get the impression most people decided not to take the kids out.  We didn't get a single person at the door, and the times I looked out the window I saw maybe one group of kids going down the street.  We did have the lights off, but I would have expected someone to come along with younger children before it got dark.

Very Slow.

We had almost no one knock on the door this Halloween.  And of the handful of people that turned up a couple were high school students doing a canned goods drive.  Very strange.  So I ended up buying some "just in case" candy we didn't actually need.  Maybe it's just that parents took their kids to safer venues like shopping malls to trick or treat this year.

Where Did They Go?

Weird.  Halloween was just about dead here.  We got a grand total of ten people come to the door, despite the porch light and kitchen table light being on.  Maybe the temperatures, around freezing, kept people away.  So now we have lots of candy left over to eat.

No, you can't have any.

Running Late.

It's 8:20 as I write this, and we just had some trick or treaters at the door.  Seems a bit late to be running around outside.  Then again we didn't see our first one here until after 5 o'clock, so I guess someone had to turn up late.

It Never Fails.

We worry whether we'll have enough candy for Halloween.  When it's all over we still have some left.  Like I need any more sugar. to eat.

Infestation.

With this being Halloween season some folks have decorated the outside of their homes.  One thing I've noticed this season is that a lot of people have black plastic rats as part of their decorations.  I'd love to have a chunk of that business given how many I've seen in the last few days.

Tally.

We had 27 trick or treaters tonight.  Definitely not the biggest crowd we've had, and given the nice weather we had today and this evening there could have been more.  Not surprisingly we have candy left over.  Gonna have to make sure I get a lot of walking in this week.

Halloween 1, H1N1 0.

Halloween has come and pretty much gone. I had wondered if the paranoia about the H1N1 flu might dissuade some trick or treaters, but I think we had about the same number this year as last year. I guess I should have kept records last year for comparison.

A Slow Night.

Tonight was of course Halloween. We did get trick or treaters, but I get the impression that we had somewhat less than last year. This unfortunately means there's more left over candy around than last year, and hence that many more calories to potentially end up around my middle. Good thing I'll most likely be getting some extra exercise next week.

Halloween Danger.

No, it's not weirdos sticking things into treats. No, it's not worrying about kids getting hit by cars as they canvass the neighbourhood. It's the danger to your waistline. Admit it, unless you hate candy you're going to eat some of stuff you bought, if you haven't already. And since it tends to come in mini packages it makes it easier to say "Oh, just one more won't hurt," and before you know it you've eaten the equivalent of two or three chocolate bars at one shot. So beware, or when next Halloween rolls around you'll be able to pull off that Dom Deluise costume you've been thinking about without padding.
