Good Bye, Chris.

What an unpleasant surprise tonight when I learned Chris Squire died yesterday of leukemia.  He was 67.  Squire was the only consistent member of Yes from its formation in 1968 to his death, and was one of the most influential rock bass players of the 1970s.  In memoriam here are a couple of great examples of his playing with Yes.

The Geezering Continues.

Once again I find myself questioning Bellator's promotional strategy.  Yesterday they signed Josh Koscheck.  Yes, some people will no doubt argue at 37 I shouldn't be calling him a geezer, but chronological age is a bit more complicated in the fight game.  Koscheck has been fighting regularly, his last bout being on March 15th of this year, but he's lost five in a row, his last win coming February 4, 2012.  So it's not hard to see why the UFC decided not to renew his contract.  His new Bellator contract has been described as multiyear, but it's hard not to think this is wishful thinking, unless he gets some soft opponents.  Is nostalgia really something you want to hang your ratings hopes on?

Attention, Anti-Gay Marriage Americans!

Canada has had gay marriage for a decade.  So that idea you had about moving up here because of today's US Supreme Court ruling?  Think again.

Oh, and we also don't let people buy handguns like candy, which some of you also think is a good idea.

Gas In Saskatoon, June 26, 2015.

It's sad that gas prices never seem to go down as fast as they can go up, but down is better than up.  Gas in Saskatoon is now 110.9 cents a litre at most locations.

Go Phillies!

Keep it up.  Pound on the Yankees again tonight.  Over here in Blue Jays land you did us a favour. Of course the Jays helped themselves by winning at Tropicana Field, a place they've had trouble winning in over the years.  Who knows, maybe this is the beginning of your stunning comeback.

Of course you guys need to lose when you play the Jays later this year, especially if they're still in contention.

Have We Met?

I mean this quite literally.  I sometimes wonder if anyone who has passed through here is someone from my past.

Ken Shamrock Versus Kimbo Slice.

Come on.

Seriously, Bellator, what the hell were you guys thinking?  Shamrock is too old, and Slice never lived up to the hype once he hit the MMA circuit.  And the fight was pretty awful, as I'd expected  Please, rethink your strategy.

Gas In Saskatoon, June 19, 2015.

A bit of relief at the pumps this week.  Gas in Saskatoon is now 113.9 cents a litre at most locations.  Now you 'll have a bit extra to buy that chocolate bar you wanted.

Reality Asserts Itself.

There are times when  I think it would be cool to be an umpire.  Then I see one get hit by a ball, or a bat, and realise I'm too much of a chicken to stand behind the plate for nine innings.  I'd spend more time worrying about getting whacked than umpiring properly.

Gas In Saskatoon, June 12, 1015.

Another pingpong week, and in a bad way.  At the start of the week gas dropped to 105.9 cents a litre.  Unfortunately things went up quite a bit Thursday.  Gas is now 117.9 cents a litre at most locations.

All Hail The Royal!

I'm in the middle of playing a sit and go on PokerStars.  And for the first time in who knows how long I had a Royal Flush.  I was playing JK clubs, and flopped an ace high flush.  A player ahead of me went all in with pocket aces, and of course I called. The third player in the hand folded.  A 10 of clubs came on fourth street, and the Queen of clubs on the river, giving me the Royal.

Visitor Caution.

I had a hit this morning from Saudi Arabia.  I'm not sure if I've had one before, but they're definitely rare if I have.  In any case the visitor came via the "next blog" link on a blog featuring what the author describes as dirty jokes in Hindi and Punjabi.  That made me wonder about the advisability of reading that blog in Saudi Arabia, a notoriously controlling place.  At least they're not in Arabic, and presumably any sort of Saudi censorship group wouldn't have a Hindi or Punjabi speaker on call to read random blogs.  I doubt the Saudi government would think much of this blog either.  That's fair, since I don't think much of religion distorted dictatorships.

The Streak Ends.

Alas, my streak has come to an end.  I got a hit on one of my Where's Willy marked bills this morning, and it came from Saskatoon.  This ended a streak of ten consecutive bills that had a hit from outside Saskatoon.  On the other hand this was hit 896(and bill hit 750), so I've got only 4 more hits to reach 900 hits.

Even There.

A bit ago I was, unfortunately, thinking about the Duggar mess again.  And that made me wonder if there was Duggar related material on the popular art site Deviantart.  I was unsurprised to see that there was.  There's not much, and in fact a lot of it isn't favourable to them.  I would imagine there's also Duggar fanfiction, pro or con, out there, as pretty much anything that can be considered a fandom generates fanfic.  You'll forgive me if I don't do any research on whether there's Duggar porn, especially now.

Gas In Saskatoon, June 5, 2015.

Another pingpong week to report.  Gas prices jumped to 111.9 cents a litre to start the week.  However midweek they dropped back down to 107.9 cents a litre at most locations.  Fortunately for me I put in gas after the price drop.

It Wasn't Woody.

But I did see a woodpecker on my lawn a few minutes ago.  Specifically a Northern Flicker, who seemed to be finding something good to eat.  For some reason I find these birds quite appealing, even if the amount of time they're visible here each year is small.

Did You Sea The King?

Hopefully you'll forgive the pun title to this one.

I swear I saw a Sea King helicopter fly over Saskatoon this morning.  Did anyone else see a chopper they thought was a Sea King?  If so I wonder who it belongs to.  I doubt the Canadian Forces would be using any of theirs over Saskatchewan at the moment.  It could be a civilian version of the Sea King, an S61, flown by a private operator.

Dry.

Last night's forecast called for rain.  We got a few spots for about a minute, then nothing.  Looks like I'll be watering the lawn and garden, which I didn't want to do.  I also didn't get to see any cool lightning.  Everything seemed to pass to the north and south of Saskatoon.
