There was a personal irony for me in reporting Derek Bailey's death. Today I purchased
Extrapolation, John McLaughlin's first album under his own name from 1969. The drummer on it was Bailey collaborator Tony Oxley. Incidently if you're a fan of late '60s jazz or
McLaughlin check this one out. Saxophonist
John Surman gets plenty of solo time, and in at least one place sounds to my ears a bit like
Pharoah Sanders.
