Sleepy Survivor.

I found a Where's Willy? hit in my e-mail this morning, and it's a cool one.  It's a sleeper, as bills that haven't been active for a  long time are called, that has been re-entered some 7 years after I first entered it, and it hadn't been previously generated a hit.  On top of that it's a 2002 series five dollar bill.  There can't be many of those left in circulation at this point, and given the bill description I suspect this one may not be long for this world.

Not This Time, Richard.

For as long as I can remember the Co Op grocery on 8th St. in Saskatoon has had a "give one, take one" book shelf.  The idea is that you leave books you're done with and take others you think you want to read.  I went in there this afternoon and decided to take a look.  I got a little bit excited when I spotted some of my favourite elusive trash:  Death Merchant books.  But my excitement was short lived, as they were all books I currently have in my possession.  Still, I guess that means I'll have to keep my eyes open, in case any turn up.

Which ones do I want to get my hands on, you ask?  Just three really, namely The Castro File, The Vengeance of the Golden Hawk, and The Fourth Reich.  Those are the ones I haven't actually read, while some of the others I don't currently have I've either read, or don't want to read.  For example Blood Bath is one I just can't make myself read, as I suspect the racism quotient is especially high in that one.

When I Rule The World 20.

America will convert to the Metric system.  Seriously, it's about time the US joined the rest of the world and used it.

Gas In Saskatoon, January 27, 2014.

For the last Monday of January we can report a drop.  Gas in Saskatoon is now 112.9 cents a litre at most locations.  But I won't be at all surprised if it goes up this week given the apparent price instability of late.

Hey, YouTube!

Stop playing those stupid Alexander Keith ads!  They're really annoying.

Gas In Saskatoon, January 20, 2014.

So much for the downward trend.  The price of gas went up last week.  Gas in Saskatoon is now 114.9 cents a litre at most locations.  Is buck twenty gas on the way?  Stay tuned.

One good thing about gas going up is that it made me post.  As is often the case |I had ideas for posts, only for them to evaporate by the time I actually had time to write anything.

I came across some familiar faces on Deviantart tonight.  Hopefully we'll be seeing more of them in the near future.

Gas In Saskatoon, January 13, 2014.

Another tiny tick down to report.  Gas in Saskatoon is now 109.9 cents a litre at most locations.  However at least a couple of places had dropped their price today to 108.4 cents a litre, so another drop may occur.

Heed The Warning.

"Don't try this at home," and its variations, may seem cliche.  But you should take such warnings very seriously.  Back in October Saskatoon resident Dylan Ernest Gibson, and his friend Aaron Stonehouse, were injured when the pipe bomb Gibson had made blew up.  Gibson, a young machinist, lost his left hand.  And he may be facing jail time after pleading guilty Thursday to a charge of breaching his legal duty of care towards explosives.

But Gibson wasn't a wannabe bomber.  Rather he apparently was inspired by watching Mythbusters, to see if he could make a working pipe bomb..  Unlike the Mythbuster crew, who have extensive experience working with explosives, and use them in extremely controlled conditions, Gibson built the device in his parent's garage.  It blew up when he tried to drill a hole into it to gain access to the contents, reportedly after forgetting to install a fuse.  Now, because he was foolish, Gibson is minus a hand, which probably will hamper his career as a machinist, and he will probably have a criminal record and face jail time.

So remember, when you're told not to try something at home, don't try it at home, no matter how smart you think you are.

Gas In Saskatoon, January 6, 2014.

The first Monday of the year sees our first report of the year, and the first drop of the year.  Gas in Saskatoon is now 110.9 cents a litre at most locations.  If you have a really big tank to fill you might be able to buy a package of breath mints with the money you saved compared to the previous price.

Got A Spare Ticket To Whitehorse?

I'd love to be in Whitehorse right now.  The 10 AM Saskatoon time weather observation indicates it's minus 6 Celsius up there.  Here in Saskatoon it's minus 33, with a north west wind of 22 kilometers an hour resulting in a wind chill of minus 48.  Whitehorse might as well be Miami from my perspective.

Welcome To 2014.

Well, another year in the books.  Was it better than 2012?  I don't think it was for me.  For lots of people it was worse.  And as is always the case a bunch of people who should have had a crappy year didn't.

Hopefully if you're reading this you aren't someone who belongs in the latter category.
